Curiosity Spark
I modified this video to spark my students' interest in the unit's topic, History through Art. My focus is art as a form of resistance. In this case, music is the art form used to protest against an incompetent government and human rights violations in Colombia.
I only used one minute and 30 seconds of the original video and split it into three parts to include focus questions and time to reflect. I also deleted two bloody scenes and muted most of the video.
The initial seven seconds have sound but minimal context because I think the man's voice will impact young students. Most of the video remains without sound so that students can concentrate on the striking images. I added a marker to pause and give students time to engage in a conversation. The video ends with 30 seconds of sound with a powerful message in the form of a song.
